Conferences and Classes

Where I Am Speaking/Teaching in 2025 and beyond

This page lists online conferences, workshops, and other events where I will be speaking, presenting, critiquing, or otherwise playing a role as faculty, with links to websites for registration if available. I am open to bookings for later in the year and in 2026. I am currently booking online events only.

I can address a variety of subjects, from practical (submissions basics, what publishers do, among other topics) to craft-related (revision, how editors read, etc.).

Dotted line

May 28 - July 30 (online): The only time this year I will be offering The Crash Course in Children's Book Publishing with author Pamela Courtney, via the Highlights Foundation. As usual, the course features 10 weeks of live and pre-recorded material, resources and supplementary materials, a weekly drop-in discussion time, and a one-on-one mentoring opportunity. Special guests: author Leah Henderson on growing as a professional and creative writing exercises; agent Sera Rivers on query letters.

August 19 and 21, evening (online): Planned dates for my two-night mini workshop on revision techniques. This is a thoughtful selection of revision tools I've been presenting in in-person and online workshops for years, with guidance in extending them and resources where you can find more. Save the date! Registration link and more information to come soon.

October 14 and 16, evening (online): I'm excited to announce tentative dates for a completely new two-night mini workshop on change in children's publishing--what's changing and how to deal with it, from fleeting events through longer-term trends to gradual change in formats and markets. I've seen trends emerge and fade, and answered many questions about them in my three decades in the business, but this is the first time I've put together a presentation addressing them. Save the date! Registration link and more information to come soon.

Coming up in 2026:

January: Expect an updated presentation of my "Successful Submission Strategies" mini workshop in January, followed by a revision retreat and the Crash Course in Children's Publishing in the spring.

Other events, including workshops and conferences, to come.
