My editorial consulting business is PC Editorial Services. I include this information on The Purple Crayon for people who would like to hire me. Please read this page and my rates and services page before contacting me (look at the bottom of this page for the contact link).

I balance work in several areas and so usually schedule manuscript and consulting work several weeks ahead. I work full-time as Executive Editor at Kane Press and therefore limit the amount of work I take on, and also include provisions in all of my work agreements to avoid conflicts of interest. Details of these provisions can be found on my Rates and services page. (In addition to Kane, my work includes maintaining this site, conferences and workshops, and revision webinars, classes, and retreats via Kid's Book Revisions).

If you would like to work with me, please contact me with a description of your project, and I'll let you know if I can help, and how long it might be before I can start.

I do freelance work in two distinct areas:

Children's Book Editing and Consulting: My main in-house experience is as a children's book editor and a textbook editor. As a freelancer, I have worked as an editorial consultant for corporate and individual clients, in trade and educational publishing, evaluating, critiquing, editing, rewriting, line-editing, and fact-checking manuscripts and galleys.

I have posted my rates and services, a list of some books I've edited, some testimonials, and a condensed resume. You can learn more about my professional background in my LinkedIn profile.

If you are looking for an editor for a book for adults, I'm not your man, but you might consider Michael Garrett.

Conferences, Workshops and Retreats: I regularly travel across the country to give speeches (some of which have developed into materials on this site), lead workshops and retreats, and do manuscript critiques and career consultations. Recently I have been to conferences in California, Minnesota, New England, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, among other places. Increasingly, I have offered online classes and workshops, as well as consultations.

I am particularly interested in workshops and retreats at which I can teach part of my revision curriculum, and can present to a small or large group, alone or with Eileen Robinson (my partner in Kid's Book Revisions). I have also created a number of workshops on publishing-related topics, covering a range of topics and levels of experience. Please email me if you think I might be a useful addition to your conference faculty, and I will be happy to provide information about what I can offer.

For more information, and to inquire about my interest in a project, please feel free to contact me.
